SHOH v Malt Shovel Cricket 2025

🏏 Selby Hands of Hope Charity Cricket Match – Sunday 29 June 2025 – Match Report and Thank You
✅ A record £1,751.91 raised after costs
Result: SHOH 191/7 beat Malt Shovel 189 all out by 2 wickets to WIN the John Loughton Trophy 🏆
What a brilliant day at Selby Cricket Club! The fundraising cricket match on Sunday 29 June was a huge success in every sense, bringing together friends, families, and the local community for sport, laughter, and fundraising in support of Selby Hands of Hope (SHOH) and Selby Cricket Club.
We were honoured to compete for the John Loughton Trophy, generously sponsored by Just Shutters North Yorkshire, and our SHOH playing kit was proudly sponsored by Amie Brooks Estate Agent.
An amazing £1,751.91 was raised after costs, with record takings from the raffle, player subs and the bar. This fantastic total will be split between SHOH and Selby Cricket Club, helping both organisations continue their vital work in supporting local people and maintaining the excellent facilities that make days like this possible.
History
This match has become a much-loved local tradition since it began in 2009, when the Selby Times and Chris Page organised the very first fundraising game against Burn CC, raising £222—a fantastic start that laid the foundations for everything that followed.
Burn CC won that inaugural fixture, with the next six matches played between The Albion and SHOH, ending in a balanced record of three wins each.
For the last nine years, we’ve faced The Malt Shovel, with the current tally standing at 6–3 in favour of SHOH. Notably, Malt Shovel have taken two of their three wins in the last three years, showing how competitive and well-matched this rivalry has become.
Next year will mark the 10th match between SHOH and Malt Shovel. Simon and I are already planning ways to celebrate this milestone, and we’d love to hear any ideas to make it even more special.
Over the years, the match has become a highlight on the local calendar—bringing people together while raising much-needed funds for two important local organisations.
